The curriculum

Three cycles. One path to the exam.

You never begin at random. The diagnostic places you in the exact cycle where you should start — and every cycle is engineered toward the exam.

Cycle I · A0 → A2 Foundations speaking basics & grammar 12 lessons +

The true-beginner cycle. You speak from the very first hour — introducing yourself, ordering, asking directions — and grammar arrives in service of the sentence, never the reverse. Twelve lessons, from the present tense to first narratives in the past.

Stage 01introduce yourself, ask questions, decline politely

Stage 02the present tense of common verbs; everyday vocabulary

Stage 03narrating in the past — first complete stories

Exithold a simple conversation, without a net

Cycle II · B1 → B2 Consolidation advanced conjugations and nuances 12 lessons +

The cycle that turns functional French into solid French. You argue, concede, and nuance; the ear trains on the real French of Montréal while the mouth produces a standard French that travels anywhere — including in front of an examiner.

Stage 01defend a point of view, concede a point gracefully

Stage 02the tenses of narration — imparfait, passé composé, plus-que-parfait

Stage 03the Montréal ear — understanding fast spoken French

Exita working B2 — the level the exam converts into points

About the founder

Montréal French, taught by someone who lives it.

I'm Ashfaaq Kazi — a Mauritian-Canadian instructor in Montréal, trilingual in English and French, with years spent working in both of Canada's official languages. The Academy is built on how I actually teach.

Two convictions run through every program. One: the fastest way to learn a language is to use it — imperfectly, from day one. Two: exam scores come from teachable, repeatable moves, so honest feedback beats comfortable feedback.

Questions

The things people ask first.

If yours isn't here, the consultation is the place for it — thirty minutes, no cost.

Which exams do you prepare students for?+
TEF Canada, TCF, and TEFAQ. Most candidates target NCLC 7 for Express Entry, citizenship, or a bilingual position. We confirm the right exam for your goal during the consultation.
Is preparation online, or in person in Montréal?+
One-to-one and online, so candidates right across Canada can take part. Preparation is in Quebec French, taught from Montréal — you do not need to be here.
Do I need the diagnostic before starting?+
Yes. Every program begins with a 90-minute diagnostic that establishes your real level, skill by skill, before any plan is set. It is what makes everything after it work.
How long does it take to reach NCLC 7?+
It depends on your starting level. Close to target, a 4–6 week Sprint; building from lower, a few months. The diagnostic gives an honest timeline, not a pitch.
How does the score guarantee work?+
Complete your program and follow the plan. If you do not reach the target level set at your diagnostic, your next block of sessions is complimentary — until you do.
How much does preparation cost?+
Pricing depends on your track and its length, and is quoted after the free consultation and diagnostic rather than up front. The consultation is always free.
